If you are using your own camera in a housing , there are a few things you must take into account before taking your camera into the water.
Most holiday insurance policies will not cover the camera inside the housing should the housing leak so it is essential that you take out separate insurance to cover this problem should it arise. Specialist companies such as Divemaster Insurance offer such policies. Equally the guarantee that comes with underwater housing is only to cover the replacement of the housing, should it develop a fault, and not the contents.
The main problem we have come across with our customers' housings leaking is a lack of proper maintenance so it is essential that you keep your kit in good working order. Remember, water is a hostile environment to anything electrical, especially salt water so it is very important that proper measures are taken each time you use your underwater kit. All of our housings come with full instructions on not only how to use them but also how to store them and how to test them before they are taken into the water.
Bear in mind that it is often several months between the times using your housing and camera so you must test all the equipment thoroughly before even considering using it with the camera inside.
