Recent years have seen drastic changes in digital imaging technologies and markets. Anticipating such changes, Fujifilm has been doing its utmost to develop the technologies that will play important roles in the upcoming digital imaging era. It has successfully been developing numerous unique devices and software, including superior charge-coupled devices (CCDs) as the Super CCD and sophisticated digital image processing software as Image Intelligence. These technologies - which reflect Fujifilm's abundant experience and expertise - are being incorporated in many different kinds of products including the new generation of photo phones, that provide images featuring high quality and intelligently optimised characteristics.
The Super CCD is a CCD image sensor based on a totally new structural design concept. Rather than using conventional rectangular photodiodes, the Super CCD features octagonal photodiodes in a 45-degree arrangement enabling for the first time a difficult-to-achieve combination of high sensitivity, wide dynamic range, high signal/noise ratio, and high image resolution. The Super CCD's greater sensitivity has broadened the range of photographable scenes and the ease of photography in general. Thus, Fujifilm has been able to create unprecedented types of digital cameras with numerous greatly improved quality characteristics.
The latest camera to dip its hand into the 3D imaging scene is the Fujifilm Finepix W3 3D camera. This new Fujifilm camera comes in an improved and sleeker design which can also capture 720p 3D video.
The Finepix W3 3D camera also boasts of 10MP image sensors which should aid in capturing images and videos in 3D.
The camera will also automatically fine-tune the sense of depth if set from there on.
There is also a manual setting available. And like most 3D cameras, the Finepix W3 will still have the standard 2D mode.
Other highlights of the W3 include an HDMI port which should make it easier for the 3D camera to be hooked directly to an HDTV.
